We do have low income housing though I've heard (at the soup kitchen where I've started to work) that Alaska is a harsh place for people with low-income. What happens sometimes is people get up here, run out of money, and get stuck. As far as social security being a hassle here, probably no more so than anywhere else, especially if you're considering moving to one of our larger cities. As for low-income housing, you can contact someone from the Alaska Housing Finance Corporation. to see if you qualify and perhaps talk to someone from their office about your particular situation to see what their advice would be as I am in *no* way an expert.
